Six European royals wear tiaras on the same day at two events

When it comes to the British royal family, tiaras are not in the cards, but fortunately Europeans have plenty of opportunities to wear jewelry, and Tuesday, December 10 was a particularly dazzling day as both the Swedish and Dutch royal families attended major events that required large diamonds as well.

The Swedish royal family attends the Nobel Prize ceremony every December and as usual pulled out all the stops in the tiara department. Queen Silvia led “Court Jeweler” magazine with a spectacular sapphire-rimmed diamond tiara known as the “Leuchtenberg Sapphire Tiara.”

The queen chose to wear the tiara with matching earrings and brooch (the tiara was part of a series of jewelry pieces dating back to 1810), but left the huge necklace from the set at home. The Queen of Sweden continued the sapphire theme with a blue sequined gown and the most gorgeous twist-up style I've seen in a long time.

Crown Princess Victoria, heir to the throne, wore a glittery pink Krista Lindaloo gown with a sheer black overlay and her signature Baden fringe tiara. It resembles the tiara that Queen Camilla recently pulled out of her safe for a Qatari state dinner in London.

Princess Madeleine recently returned to Sweden from Florida with her husband Chris O'Neill and their daughters in a sparkling green off-the-shoulder Fady El Khoury dress with a dramatic train. Her tiara, perhaps my favorite of the evening, was the Connaught Diamond Tiara.

It is a looped design featuring floral diamonds and dangling diamond droplets and can be worn as a necklace. She complemented the green of her gown with sparkling emerald and diamond earrings and a matching brooch.

Finally, Princess Sophia, wife of Prince Carl Philip, looked incredible in a royal blue gown by designer Soren Le Schmidt. Sofia chose a wedding tiara, a clever diamond piece that can be customized with a variety of stones on top.

The princess, who is expecting her fourth child in February, used London blue topaz accents for her Nobel Prize, paired with topaz and diamond drop earrings.

Moving on to the Netherlands, the country's royal family hosted a state visit by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, and the Dutch ladies brought out gorgeous diamond tiaras for the occasion.

The always lovely Queen Maxima chose scarlet, one of the colors of the Portuguese flag, and glammed up in a diplomatic gown. She paired it with a huge ruby and diamond tiara, a patterned style by Jan Taminiau that she had worn before.

The tiara was derived from the Mererio Ruby Parure, a jewelry set given to Queen Emma of the Netherlands as a Christmas gift in 1888. At the dinner, Queen Maxima also wore matching earrings, bracelet, and three-strand necklace from this set.

And Princess Catherina-Amaria, the 21-year-old future queen, shone in the most beautiful periwinkle gown. The cape-like Tadashi Soji design was covered in sparkling sequins, and she wore the same diamond star tiara on her dress that her mother wore on her wedding day.

As for the rest of the look, she added even more sparkle, wearing a huge diamond necklace and bracelet and glittering drop earrings. A look fit for a future queen.
