Lindsay Lohan, Nancy Meyers Post Condolences to “The Parent Trap” Screenwriter

Lindsay Lohan and director Nancy Meyers are in mourning. Oscar-nominated writer, director, and producer Charles Shyer died Friday, December 27, in Los Angeles at the age of 83, it was announced late Saturday.

Myers posted a tribute to her former husband and longtime collaborator on her Instagram page on Sunday morning, posting a photo of the two of them on an undisclosed shoot with the caption, “Charles Scheer 1941 -2024 💔.” Several celebrities, including Lohan, comedian Phoebe Robinson, and “Simple Favors” director Paul Feig, sent replies in remembrance.

Lohan later posted her own Instagram story to mourn Scheer, calling him a “dear friend” and “always in my heart, as are all the fond memories I have of him,” and posted a photo of the two of them, presumably in pre-production for The Parent Trap A photo of the two was posted.

Scheer (Myers' ex-husband and father of their two daughters) is best known as the writer of a number of iconic comedies, including the 1998 remake of Parent Trap, which made Lohan a household name. During their marriage, Meyers and Scheer were considered one of the most powerful duos in the Hollywood film industry, working as a team on almost every project completed during their marriage.

Other notable works include writing and directing Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride Part II, and the 2004 remake of Alfie, starring Jude Law. He also co-wrote “Private Benjamin” starring Goldie Hawn, which was nominated for several Academy Awards upon its release in 1980.

Kimberly Williams-Paisley, star of the film Father of the Bride, also shared a loving tribute to the writer/director, explaining that she would not be where she is today if Scheer and Myers had not believed in her.

“I will always be grateful for the opportunities he and Nancy Meyers gave me,” the actress wrote in a touching caption.

“They were my Hollywood family at one time, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them.”

In an official statement released to Deadline, Shier's family wrote: “It is with an unspeakably heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beloved father, Charles Shier. His death has left an unfillable hole in our lives, but his legacy lives on through his children and the 50 years of amazing work he left behind. We honor the extraordinary life he led and know that there will never be another like him.”
