Comedian corrects Blake Lively joke, expresses support
Former Summer House star-turned-comedian Hannah Berner clarifies the timeline for her Blake Lively joke in Netflix's Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year
filmed earlier this year. comedy special, Berner joked that “the word ‘c--t’ was trending this year,” but quickly got to the punchline: “I guess Blake Lively wasn't so bad.”
The timing of the joke is all the more damning given that the special, which began streaming on Friday, was released just days after Lively filed suit against “It Ends With Us” co-star and director Justin Baldoni.
In a post to his Instagram Stories on Friday night, Varner posted an image of himself from the special and the note, “My joke on the Netflix roast was taken before the news (of the lawsuit). For the record, I'm rooting for Blake.
The statement follows a wave of support from Lively's friends, family, and collaborators, including her sister Robin Lively, “Simple Favors” director Paul Feig, sequel co-stars Michele Morrone and Jenny Slate, Colleen Hoover, Amber Hurd (whose ex-husband Johnny Depp used the same crisis management PR firm as Baldoni during the highly publicized trial), and her “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” co-stars America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn.
Following the complaint, Baldoni was removed from WME representation, sued by her former publicist, and had an award she won earlier this year for being an ally of women revoked. Liz Plank, co-host of the podcast Man Enough, also left the show, and according to a new report in Deadline, Baldoni is planning a countersuit against Lively after the New Year.
