Prince Charles “saddened” that Sarah Ferguson cancelled Sandringham's Christmas plans after “years in exile”
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson will not be traveling to Sandringham to spend Christmas with the royal family. According to one royal expert, Prince Charles is quite sad that the Duchess of York will not be attending.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jenny Bond spoke about Ferguson's decision to withdraw from a Christmas visit to Sandringham in an interview with OK! (via GB News). 'This will be a blow for Fergie. She was very happy last Christmas and was obviously delighted to be able to take part in her family's festivities after being in exile for so many years."
Ferguson's decision to leave Sandringham was not a surprise, as she had been a member of the family for many years.
However, Ferguson has continued to make it clear that she will stay by Prince Andrew's side no matter what. So it seems that if the Duke of York were asked to step back from official royal functions, Ferguson would continue to do the same. “But her loyalty will always be to Andrew, and she will always be by his side ...... wherever they spend the day,” Bond explained.
The Duke and Duchess of York reportedly plan to spend Christmas at their home, the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Bond also noted that the monarch would be saddened that Ferguson would not be able to attend the Christmas party at Sandringham. 'I believe the King has a fondness for Ferguson,' he said. She always brings a pleasant atmosphere.” So he will be a little sad that she is leaving Sandringham and rubbing shoulders with her ex-lover,” Bond continued.
Royal editor Rebecca English recently appeared on Mail+'s “Palace Confidential” and praised Ferguson, especially after Andrew's scandal. 'Sarah, the Duchess of York literally saved the Royal Family's Christmas,' English said. 'If his ex-wife hadn't been there to say a few quiet words in his ear, the holiday season could have been quite disastrous.'
