The royal family has many Christmas traditions that have been in place for decades and in some cases centuries. However, some royals do not follow these special rules, and three of them are Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Princess Louis.

Grant Harold, a former royal butler, told “Marie Claire” that Prince Charles' family, on behalf of the spin jenny, opens presents “during afternoon tea” on Christmas Eve. He continues, “The tradition of preparing Christmas presents on Christmas Eve goes back to the German side of the family.”

Indeed, it was Queen Victoria's German husband, Prince Albert, who brought this tradition across the pond, and like many royal things, it stuck. Princess Kate, however, is reportedly not too fond of getting her hands on gifts on Christmas eve.

According to The Daily Beast, a friend of William and Kate's said, “Kate always thinks Christmas Eve presents are weird. Kate has always thought it was weird to give gifts on Christmas Eve. Nevertheless, she has already loosened up somewhat on the gift-opening habit.

Harold told Marie Claire magazine that when he worked for the royal family, “Santa would still come for the children that night, but for the adults it was a chance to exchange Christmas gifts.” This explains why the Princess of Wales told some fans that her children “got up very early” to open presents on Christmas Day 2018.

A source also told The Daily Beast that this year “William and Kate will be saving their own and their children's presents for Christmas at home,” and that “they will be giving each other and there children proper presents on Christmas Day. No doubt about that.”

As for what will be under the Christmas tree at Anmer Hall, royal commentator Jenny Bond told “OK!” magazine, “I'm sure George will have a flying lesson card, Charlotte will have something from Taylor Swift, and little Louis will have something adventurous. I wonder.
