Ariana Grande buys pink underwear and more before “Wicked” audition
[The only thing I can say is that her actions to win the role of Glinda in “Wicked” were just that. She went above and beyond to get the part of Glinda in “Wicked. How else can one categorize the fact that in the months leading up to her audition, she bought nothing but pink clothing, down to her underwear? That, my babes, is manifestation.
In a new behind-the-scenes interview video for the film, released exclusively to PEOPLE, Grande and director John M. Chu delve into what it's like for the Grammy-winning singer (and actress) to culminate.
Grande explained that to cast a spell on herself, “I've been chasing [producer] Mark Pratt for about 10 years, wondering when this movie was going to happen, when I would have a chance to audition for it.”
“As soon as I heard that maybe in a few months they would start picking people, I said, 'Wow! Now is the time to start.' And by “start,” she meant wearing as much pink as her body and wardrobe would allow, even buying and wearing pink underwear to become Glinda's magical thinking. I thought, 'I wonder what underwear [Glinda would wear today],' and I turned part of my closet into pink tops and stuff,” she explained.
And although she always seemed destined and determined to play Glinda, the director did not make it easy for her and had her audition several times for both Glinda and Elphaba.
“Strangely enough, I sang for both. 'I don't know why. I don't know why, but I sang for Glinda."
[13“I love Elphaba,” Grande offered, before adding, “But... .” she added modestly.
