Kate Beckinsale shares harrowing on-set experience in support of Blake Lively

Kate Beckinsale is speaking out. She has been following the news and discourse surrounding the Blake Lively/Justin Baldoni allegations, and like many of us, she is speaking out in support of the actress' claims. This is because she knows firsthand how the Hollywood “machine” (as she calls it) works. And she is sick and tired of keeping quiet about it. [because the experience she recounts in the Instagram video posted below is truly harrowing and simply not something anyone trying to do their job at work would endure.

She was physically harmed by a male co-star while filming a fight scene, forced by her publicist to take pictures during a miscarriage, and “sucked off” by a crew member at the age of 18 or so. ...... All because of the perception that everyone in Hollywood should be so grateful and so lucky to be there (not to mention the millions of dollars it costs to make a movie) and that bad behavior should be ignored.

And they apparently very often are.

In the over four-minute video, Beckinsale recounts several inappropriate and downright illegal experiences he had during the filming. Such as when he was physically harmed during a fight sequence and was “banned” for speaking out about it.

“Sometimes there are actors who feel a certain thrill at being legally harmed by a woman during a fight sequence,” Beckinsale explained. 'I was harmed, as evidenced by the MRI. And what actually happened was that I was gassed, made to feel as if I was the problem, blamed, ostracized, and as soon as I said I had a problem, I was removed from the cast dinner party and not allowed to speak.”

As for how and why this relates to Lively's experience, Beckinsale explained that “I never met either of them, and I wasn't on the set, so I can't speak to that,” but she also noted that this complaint “is not the first time in this industry that a woman has been accused of doing something legitimate to offensive, upsetting, harmful, or whatever, this machinery that is triggered when a complaint is made is ...... highlighted,” she added.

Her words speak not only to that, but also to the fact that if this machine exists in Hollywood and succeeds in silencing beloved celebrities with power, imagine what is happening to women in the industry and in positions without the same level of power and support.

For years, she and other actresses have essentially been told not to talk about these things. That has to stop. It has to stop.

Beckinsale added, “I appreciate Blake Lively emphasizing that this is not some quaint issue that no one is facing. This is going on. And when it happens, a machine will be introduced to absolutely destroy you.”
