Prince Harry went into "panic mode" upon hearing of Queen's hospitalization, sources say

Living away from family is never easy. That is why we can only sympathize with Prince Harry (opens in new tab), who was truly worried when he heard that his grandmother, the Queen, had spent the night in the hospital.

A source told Us Weekly (opens in new tab) that the Duke of Sussex went into "panic mode" when the news arrived and wanted to get to England as soon as possible to be with his grandmother.

"He feels helpless being 5,000 miles away in Montecito, California, and is in nonstop contact with her," the source added. The duke "feels guilty for not saying goodbye" to his grandfather, Prince Philip (opens in new tab), who died in April 2021, and fears a reunion with 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth.

"He would never forgive himself if the same thing happened to his beloved grandmother," the source continues. To avoid that, he wants to "return home for Christmas with Meghan so that she can be reunited with Lilibet and reunited with Archie." It was previously reported that the Sussexes might travel to England (opens in new tab) for Christmas, but one royal expert had doubts (opens in new tab).

The Queen's hospitalization came after she was advised to rest and canceled a planned trip to Northern Ireland (open in new tab); according to the Express (open in new tab), she also withdrew from the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, starting October 31 (opens in new tab), but resumed her important royal duties by meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Prince Harry has not returned to the UK (open in new tab) since July, when he attended the unveiling of a statue (open in new tab) of his mother, Princess Diana. His wife, Meghan Markle (open in new tab), has also not returned home since the couple retired from their royal duties in March 2020. Their daughter, Lilibet (open in new tab), was born in California in June, but has yet to meet her British relatives in person.
