Read MoreIt's no secret that the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry is rife with frustration right now.
But apparently there is more than straight-up anger in this rift on the Prince of Wales' part: it is said that William is also slightly jealous of Harry's life as he leads his own.
"William is a little jealous of [his brother's] freedom," an anonymous source told Us Weekly.
Harry, the "spare," could leave his royal duties behind, but William, the future king, does not have that option.
According to royal author Ed Owens, another reason William "envied" Harry was what the Duke of Sussex could accomplish as a free agent, so to speak.
"Harry has accomplished amazing things," Owens told Us Weekly, pointing in particular to the Invictus Games. That international limelight is what sets Harry's work apart from the rest of the royal family."
Of course, William has also accomplished much - for example, establishing the annual Earthshot Prize to reverse the climate crisis - but Owens seems to point out that Harry's projects often receive special media attention.
On Harry's part, however, there is a real desire to build bridges with his brother and move forward, and a second source told Us Weekly that he has invited William and Princess Kate to the Invictus Games event in London on May 8.
"Harry is very happy and has no such [old] feelings now," the second source said. He feels that his life has purpose and meaning and that he can bring a lot of good to the world."
Harry is likely to meet his father, King Charles, while he is in England, but it is unclear whether he will meet William, whom he has been estranged from for the past few months.
Thankfully, the relationship between the Duke and his father, who announced his cancer diagnosis in February, seems to have taken a turn for the better recently.
As for William's alleged jealousy, this is not the first time royal officials have hinted at such a thing.
In February, royal author Robert Jobson said of William's view of the Invictus Games, "I think there was jealousy of what went well."
Meanwhile, Omid Scobie wrote last year that "there are certainly persistent reports that William has been, and will continue to be, jealous of Harry's freedom to 'break free' from the royal regime."
