Jennifer Lopez Reunites with Ben Affleck for Lunch in Anti-Revenge's Apersky Sweater
It has been four months since Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck filed for divorce. From the outside, the two appear to be on good terms and, in the singer's case, no longer dressing for payback.
On December 21, Lopez and Affleck had lunch together at Soho House in West Hollywood. The “On the Floor” singer left her shelves of revenge dresses and crop tops in the closet and instead opted for a “We're Besties” cardigan. Specifically, she chose an ivory Polo Ralph Lauren sweater with a navy intarsia pattern on the front. Paired with light-wash jeans, ankle boots, and hoop earrings, the overall vibe was more après-ski than divorce attorney.
Affleck, photographed separately, seemed firmly in the blue phase, wearing blue jeans, a blue sweater, and blue Nike sneakers.
Jennifer Lopez has always been known to wear quality. Since her separation from Affleck (which began on April 26 of this year, court documents reveal), she has become even more inclined to treat herself. Never has her Birkin bag collection been more noteworthy than this summer, when she turned 55 in Dior dresses, Chanel shirts, and the contents of all of LoveShackFancy's stores.
Her post-separation interactions with her exes (made famous by Princess Diana) were high-wattage versions of her legendary Revenge dress. Lopez's red carpet version, which debuted at the premiere of an Affleck-produced film, featured a mirror-finish Tamara Ralph cinched at the side with only a black ribbon. She also wore a revealing naked dress to the premiere of “Wicked,” and when she had lunch with Affleck earlier this fall, she opted for a crop top and flared jeans that boldly exposed her stomach.
In the months since, Lopez's cozy après-ski sweater looks like a confident choice. Revenge dresses tell the world that you're better than you used to be, and cocoon knits say you have nothing to prove. Or maybe it's your latest purchase, when you shopped for a Birkin and coat at Ralph Lauren's flagship store in LA on Saturday.
A recent interview suggests it was more of the former. According to British Vogue magazine, Lopez takes the “hardships” she has faced this year as a lesson.
“I think the way I overcome things is not to think of them as something that happened to me, but to think of them as something that happened to me and what the lesson is to be learned in that moment,” she said. She added, “When you think about things that way and stay in that kind of more positive mindset about it, it makes it easier to kind of accept it as the lesson that it is.
