Joe Biden withdraws from 2024 presidential race

In a decision that will go down in history, President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 campaign.

The President announced the news in a letter to “My Fellow Americans” after weeks of Democratic agitation following Biden's remarkably poor performance in the June 27 debate. In that letter, the President outlined what he considered his greatest success since taking office, before announcing that he was stepping down as the presumptive Democratic nominee.

“Serving as your president has been the greatest honor of my life. And although I had intended to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of the party and the country that I step down and devote the remainder of my term solely to fulfilling my duties as president,” he wrote.

In a subsequent post, Biden expressed support for Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee. Harris will face former President Donald Trump, who formally accepted the party's nomination at last week's Republican National Convention.

“My first decision as the party's nominee in 2020 was to nominate Kamala Harris for vice president. And it was the best decision I ever made. Today, I fully support and endorse Kamala to be my party's nominee this year.”

Alluding to the past weeks in which Democratic pundits and politicians had urged Biden to step aside, the president concluded his letter by writing, “I am not going to stand down. I will do so.”
