The Squid Game” Season 3: Everything We Know

“Squid Game” Season 2 Full Episode Spoilers Ahead Since the original version became a surprise global phenomenon in the fall of 2021, viewers have been eagerly awaiting the return of Netflix's dystopian K-drama “Squid Game.” Three years after the premiere of Season 1, Season 2 of “Squid Game” finally debuted on December 26, 2024, and fans cheered for Gihoon (Lee Jung-jae) to end the horrible game. Instead, Season 2 ended with Gihoon's failed rebellion against his front man (Lee Byung Hun) and another devastating emotional fall.

Fortunately, Netflix confirmed that “Squid Game” would complete its epic story; in July 2024, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that the series would conclude with a third season. Now that we know which characters survived Season 2, read everything we know about “Squid Game” Season 3. (If you're still scratching your head over the cliffhanger at the end of Season 2, read our breakdown of the finale.)

Don't worry: You won't have to wait another three years between “Squid Game” Season 2 and Season 3; Netflix has confirmed that “Squid Game” Season 3 will be released sometime in 2025. The exact release date is still unknown, but since Season 2 and Season 3 were reportedly filmed back to back, expect new episodes to be released soon.

Netflix did not include a full trailer for season 3 at the end of season 2, but viewers were able to see some flashes of future scenes. Yeonhee, the “red light, green light” doll, returns, this time under the setting sun. The male dolls (her “boyfriends,” Cheol-su and Hwang) face her while the railroad crossing switches from red to blue. Get ready for Season 3.

With the lower-than-expected death toll for Season 2, most of the show's new ensemble cast will be returning to finish out their respective arcs. Lee Jung-jae (Gihoon), Lee Byung-hun (Frontman), Wee Ha-jung (Juno), Jun Seok-ho (Woo-suk), Lim Siwan (Myung-gi, 333), Cho Yuri (Juni, 222), Yang Dong-gun (Young-shik, 007), Kang Ye-sim (Geum-ja, 149), Park Kyu-young (Noeul), Kang Ha-neul (Taeho, 388), Park Sung-hoon (Hyun-ju, 120), Choi Guk-hee (Seonyo, 044), Lee David (Min-su, 125), Ro Jae-won (Namgyu, 124).

Since Season 2 and Season 3 are connected, it is unlikely that new cast members will be added to Season 3. However, there could be a surprise casting like Park Hye-sun as the frontman's second-in-command.

After the dark ending of Season 2, where the rebellion failed and Gihoon witnessed the death of his best friend Jung-bae (Lee So-hwan), Season 3 will probably start off on a low note. Will Gihoon be able to stand up and fight again, or will he lose hope? Either way, he will be forced to continue playing the game with the rest of the players, much to the perverse amusement of the front men and VIPs. (Also, since X is pretty much wiped out, the game could go on for all six rounds.)

No one knows the specifics, but there are two big, emotional matchups in Season 3: Gihoon vs. Frontman (preferably without masks) and Frontman vs. his brother Juno. The showdown between Gihoon and the frontman (preferably without the mask) and the showdown between the frontman and his brother Junho. Since Captain Park works for the frontman, he may lead Junho and his crew to the right island, where the brothers will be reunited. As for how it will all end, we'll just have to wait and see what hints we get from teasers and cast interviews on the road to Season 3.
