According to the media outlet, Thompson helped Princess Kate carry flowers and gifts she had received from the crowd, and stood near her throughout the event.

In October, the London Times reported that Commander Thompson had proposed to his girlfriend, Olivia Lewis, and that they had decided to marry. In a statement announcing the news, it was revealed that the engagement was between “Commander Johnny Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London.”
