Zendaya Wears $8,890 Worth of Archive in New Louis Vuitton x Haruki Murakami Campaign
In the early 2000s, renowned fashion brand Louis Vuitton inadvertently made fashion history when it announced a new collaboration with visual artist Takashi Murakami. This fateful drop became one of the brand's most iconic items, and its designs remained sought after for years to come.
Even today, this whimsical item is difficult to find on the second-hand market due to the unyielding demand of fashion collectors. This long-lasting popularity brought the two fashion names back together almost two decades later. According to the press release, this is a “re-edited collection” that “reconstructs and updates” the original pieces from the early 00s. And who better to promote this collection than Hollywood's queen of archives, Zendaya?
Zendaya had been casually teasing the launch for weeks with a handbag from the unreleased collection, and she appeared in the renewed Louis Vuitton x Murakami Collection campaign. The longtime Louis Vuitton ambassador wore separates from a vast selection of 200 pieces, including a $515 printed scarf that she wrapped around her neck as a halter top.
Her nostalgic accessories were washed down with LV monograms and cheerful Murakami flowers. In Carrie Bradshaw style, she wore a $505 leather belt around her bare waist and carried a Capucine East West Mini (retail $6,850).
Her shoes were also pulled straight from the original line, an almost exact replica of a pair released over 20 years ago: the studded sandals, dubbed “6AM Mules,” retailed for $1,020.
The collection will hit stores on January 1 and will feature hundreds of Louis Vuitton classics re-imagined in Murakami's motifs, namely heritage styles such as Keepall, On the Go, Speedy, and Rolling Trunk.
This massive drop is just the first half of an ongoing partnership focused on contemporary remakes. The “second chapter” will be released in March 2025 and will focus on Murakami's signature cherry blossom pattern.
